The kids and I left for Cincinnati. Sydnee had an appointment at the psychiatrist and they have increased her meds. The OCD portion has changed, but she is still hoarding garbage and hiding food under furniture to eat it later. We're not sure why. She is allowed to eat just about anything when she wants something, so there isn't a reason to hide it. She also eats strange things. Examples: I found her hiding behind the couch with a package of cream cheese. She was digging it out with her hands and eating it. When she heard me come into the room, she slid it under the couch. I find chip bags under her bed, cracker packs, goldfish containers in her drawers or under the bed. If she gets up before us, she will eat a tub of butter or sourcream and then maybe eat a piece of toast later. I have found her in the pantry eating raw oats or grits (dry ones never made). Any ideas anyone?
Tomorrow she is supposed to have an MRI for the neurologist at 1:30. But we hit a snag, because she can't have anything metal in or on her. Remember the metal horse she swallowed? Well we still don't know if he has come out yet. So they have to confirm that. And I hope they do, because maybe then she will stop trying to look for it (if you know what I mean). It's been 3 weeks I think. So anyway they want the xray today so we'll know sooner. I am currently in a hotel room waiting for an answer. We have tried to get orders from her neurologist and from her PCP. Hopefully one of them will call soon. I am waiting to hear from the girl in radiology to let me know someone has sent it in.
Both kids will their neuropsych evaluations in March. There is a very long waiting list. This will be the part that confirms physical findings, genetics, etc. We know with Simon there is something else going on, just don't know exactly what.
My mother called me yesterday very upset. She had gotten a call to come to the hospital for a good friend of hers. She got very sick and wasn't expected to make it through the night. In less than 24 hours she was gone. It was a shock for everyone. Come to find out it was Leukemia. No one even knew she had it. She was thought to have pneumonia when she first came in, but within hours she was in ICU on a ventilator. So please keep my mom and her friends family in your prayers. This is a big shock for them all. Mom had a lot of respect for for. So she is really questioning "why her".
As I am sitting here typing, Sydnee is holding a hairbrush like a telephone and looking through the yellow pages (and the Cinci YP's are heavier than she is). Now she is asking for the appointment book and writing down numbers and pretending to dial them. One of her main assets is being able to pretend with nearly anything.
Well, that's it for now. I hope to hear soon on what time to be at the radiology department. I had told the kids we could go see "Marley and Me" after it's done.
