I woke up for my morning ritual at 6:45 and peeked into the livingroom. When I did so, Mike was cocked back in his recliner. So I went back to bed and then heard the kids get up giggling "she's awake". I told them that it wasn't time to get up just yet and they went back to their rooms just for a little bit. About that time I heard Mike say he was waiting for us to get up. So our morning started pretty early. I was looking for at least 8am. But as I recall when we were kids, we got up earlier every year until it was backed up nearly to Christmas Eve night. So I guess this is payback.
The first things the kids opened were the things Santa brought to them. They were both thrilled. Simon asked for a Star Wars Bobble Head. Sydnee wanted a light up yo- yo. So they were both happy with that. I got us all a Wii this year. And the kids got several games, an outfit, hats, gloves, socks, craft things, stiltz (which I always wanted when I was a kid), Whirly Gig bike, Simon got a electric keyboard to start piano lessons. There was a ton more too.
I got a brown coat from LL Bean. Mike wanted the standard things, so he got some new jeans.
Later we all went to the firehouse to have Christmas with my Grandmother. We started going there years ago because the family had gotten so large that her house just wasn't going to work any more. My uncle worked for the fire department, so were able to get a large room and a kitchen for the food. It worked for us, so we have stuck with it. Not a year has gone by that one of the kids hasn't played on a fire truck. That is always the big thing to do.
I got to see one of my nephews that I hadn't seen in several years. That was a great moment for me. And to see how much he had grown and turned into such a nice looking young man. He looks like such a combination of my brother and my SIL. We talked about his college plans and it seems he definitely has himself together with goals and plans. It was wonderful to see him.
After leaving the firehouse, we went to Mike's Mom's house. His brothers family was there as well. We have donea $5 gift exchanged game over the past few years. This year I told the kids they could play. They enjoyed it, even thought they thought they might get something that only an adult would choose. But it all ended well. Simon got a dart board, Sydnee a book light, Mike an alarm clock and I got a box of turtle candy.
After leaving the firehouse, we went to Mike's family. We had dinner and then we had the opportunity to hear Omenesa sing. She is the daughter of my sister in law's friend. Both of them are very sweet gals. But Omnesa sings like a bird. She did a wonderful job. Sydnee was itching to sing with her (which surprised us all). In the end Sydnee ended up standing up in front of everyone and sang her little heart out. If you would have asked me 2 years ago whether she would have done that, I would have said "absolutely not". But she has come a long way. Omenesa told her she had CD's that she could use to help with her voice. Sydnee was jumping up and down wanting to do something like that. So that was interesting. Omenesa was heading to England this coming week to sing.
Well I am exhausted and ready to head down to a flannel sheet calling my name.
So Goodnight and Merry Christmas.
