Schools out

Well school is out for the summer. I don't know if that s good or bad. Our plan is to work on our phonograms & handwriting, attend the reading lab at school 2-3 days a week, attend our dozens of appointments in Cincinnati, try to do some mini trips to see some neat things.

I had a 4 day retreat last weekend and it was WONDERFUL! I managed to finish 2 quilt tops, 1/2 of another one (king size), 5 blocks that will go in a quilt that we get a new block each month.

After getting home on Monday night, I had to pack for 2 days in Cinci. The kids saw their new psychologist and Dr. Hopkins the geneticist. He confirmed the Fetal Alcohol on both kids, although Simon's is mild compared to Sydnee. She has the physical features of the eye folds, flat bridge on her nose, low set ears, thin lip, 1/2 formed philtram. Simon only had the double fold ears & low set ears. Their hands and fingers were fine.He said Simon definitely has something in the autism spectrum. There are many things in his movements and behaviors alone that showed that.

When we got home on Wednesday, it was time to pack to spend the night at the lake so we could see Mammoth Cave on Thursday. As we were heading down Waterford Road, we saw a huge snapping turtle in the middle of the road. This thing measured over 12" across and had a huge head. I kept trying to get it over to the other side of the road, but it would whip around to bite me. Took me forever, but finally got him over there. And of course what kind of person would I be if I didn't take its picture. fWhen we left the lake to go to Mammoth, we took the ferry that takes you across Green River. I thought it would 10 or so minutes. But it looked like we were going across a creek and it look a whole 5 minutes. When we got to Mammoth, we took a walk on a trail while we waited for our cave tour time. We went on the historic tour which was 2 hours. Just as the guides were telling us the rules of the walk, Simon turned around and said "Mom, snake!" Sure enough there was a snake about 4-5 ft long right behind us. And he just kept slithering toward the crowd. Of course I went running to the other side and some man there had the same idea. No sooner than I did that, Sydnee goes running up to the snake. I thought the ranger was going to have a heart attack. He hollered "no, don't go near it". She wasn't happy, but we didn't know what kind it was, so the last thing we wanted, was for her to get bit.

This little guy was posing for me.
After we went through the tour, we saw a little fawn. It was so cute.

We came home on Friday around 3. I had a quilt store auction to go to later that evening. And this weekend I will be catching up on laundry, kids rooms, etc. I'm pooped!
Starting tonight the kids and I will start camping out in the back yard. They love it and so do I. Mike is a big Weeny when it comes to camping in a tent. I just laugh at him. But the kids and I love it and we will do it unless there is a storm. Otherwise we are out nearly every night.
