It's March already?

The days are flying by. I'm not sure there even was a February. But at any rate it is March already. Mom's birthday is the 16th, I have a friend who has a baby due on the 16th, the kids school program is the 13th, spring break starts the 31st, we have a birthday party this weekend, we had one last weekend at the Paint Spot for Aubrey, and I have a quilt retreat the weekend of the 20th for 3 days. So I don't think the calendar is completely full just yet, but give me a day or two.

Our month started off with a birthday party at the Paint Spot. They kids had a ball. They asked if they can have their party there as well. But the only thing is that it's so tight on space. That is a lot of kids in small space with ceramics. Hmmm, I will have to think a bit on this one because invites have to go out soon. Their birthdays are April 3rd and 13th. Up until yesterday they wanted their own separate birthdays, but yesterday they decided again that they want one together.

Monday the kids had school as usual. Basketball practice at 6:00. Well 45 minutes into practice, Simon got wopped on the right side of his head with the ball. And unfortunately Sydnee was the one passing the ball. He stopped and held his ear and came to see me. Then he started saying he could hear drums in his head on the left side. As most moms I said "you're almost done, we'll check it when we get home". When it was time to go home, he said he didn't hurt or hear the drums. So I figured it wasn't anything big. We got home and I looked in his right ear with the otoscope (coolest tool that every mom should have). And it looked to me like the eardrum was gone.

So I called the pediatrician and she wanted him to go to the ER. I just wanted to know if it was something that would be an emergency or if seeing her the next morning would work. She said no, he had to go. So off we went and I dropped Sydnee at my friend Jill's since it was nearly bedtime anyway and Mom is in Florida. We waited for over 2 hours in the packed waiting room at Jewish Medical Center. Now in the meantime Simon fell completely asleep into his coma state he does at night. They had to get a wheel chair to get him back and then to the car. He slept through the entire event. They verified his eardrum was busted and that he had a severe ear infection on the left and they expect it to burst as well. No fever, no pain, etc. How in the world can someone have the infection that bad with no symptoms? I don't get it.

Two minutes later he told me the plan and was out the door. I'm not lieing when I say we weren't in the exam room over 5 minutes. We got back home at 11:30. They told us to follow up with our ENT. Back to school in the morning, prescripton for Tylenol 3 if needed and an antibiotic. Oh and don't forget the $100 co pay for ER visits.

Tuesday, Sydnee got her first ever massage by a professional just before her physical therapy. Her muscles in her legs and back are so hard that she is unable to do a lot of things like most kids. Everyone thinks that because she will jump off a roof if you let her that she is just silly and brave. But the truth is that she over compensates by doing things like that and does it very fast. They told us that she gets the momentum with speed so she won't just fall over. If she tries to do things slowly, she will fall over. And you don't have to push her. So she is now on an exercise program, therapy and massages. For the first time ever she told her therapist that what she was trying to get her to do was very hard. She really struggles. I think that is why she enjoys the water so much.

Today, Simon had his ENT appointment. Dr. Creely told us that he definitely has the ear drum issue, but it will heal on its own. Because the ear drum is one of the fastest healing things we have. Hmm, didn't know that. The ear infection isn't as bad as the hospital conveyed to me. His nose is "severe allergy nose". Great, he's probably allergic to the pets. He wants allergy testing, put him on a nasal spray, and said to hold on the antibiotic. He thinks he can get rid of the infection on his own. His temp on the left ear was 100.4 and the right was normal. His left cheek was flushed and warm and the right was fine. Very odd to me. I have never seen one cheek over the other be different. So he is scheduled for allergy tesing on April 1 (spring break). This should be interesting. Lots of needles and a child who is very strong physically. I may need to bring someone else with me to help. She told me to bring a DVD and headphones.

I was supposed to pick up Grandmother and bring her to quilt club. I was supposed to teach a class there too. So I was scurring around trying to get someone to sub for me and then had to call Grandmother to let her know I wasn't going to be able to get her. She was actually relieved. She said it's awfully cold anyway and she had plenty of things she could work on at home without leaving the warm house.

Is this enough?

My goodness! A BUSTED eardrum?!! That sounds way worse than the doctors are making it seem! And eardrums heal, huh? Totally wild!
